Competitions are held at county, state, and national levels. Annual mathematics competitions for 7th and 8th grade students bring a number of organizations together in a cooperative effort to promote and reward excellence in mathematics. The program is administered by the MathCounts Foundation. Beginning in September each year, teachers coach MathCounts students in mathematics skills and teamwork. In addition to basic arithmetic, students learn math logic, probability and statistics, linear algebra, and polynomials. Many AJHS students have had and will continue to have the opportunity to compete as part of the MathCounts team. Sponsored and coached by members of the AJHS math department, the students compete in tests on campus and in the spring at other schools. The performance of the team has been exceptional, with the awarding of many trophies. Students have been recognized on the local and state levels. Ask your AJHS Math Teacher for meetings times and days and for more information. For more information and some challenging problems go to the National MathCounts Website. |
